Head Coach: Mr. David Byars

        Mr. Byars is the principal and has been the coach of the Westview High School varsity cheerleaders since 1992. His squad competes at the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Championship in Orlando, Florida February 10th through February 13th. Nationally ranked 16 out of 19 years, coaching 101 All American/All Stars, and winning a NCA National Championship in 1994-1995 and UCA National Championship in 2003-2004, 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2010-2011 are among his many accomplishments. Fifteen of his athletes have received Division I collegiate scholarships in cheerleading and three former cheerleaders have received Division I collegiate scholarships in dance. Many others have received $500.00 scholarships toward college tuition. The Charger Cheerleaders have won the Clinic Bowl State Championship 1992 through 1996, 1999 and 2000 and the TSSAA State Cheerleading Championships in 1997 and 1999. They have brought home the first place trophy for the Regional Qualification Competition for UCA Nationals for the past eight years.  He coached the National Champion for UCA Girls "4" Stunt Group Competition for the two years in a row 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.  Mr. Byars was also named the West Tennessee Cheerleading Coach of the Year by TSSAA for the 2004-2005 academic school year. 
        

        Big David (as he is known to his squad) completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee Martin with a Bachelor of Science in Education and his Master of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He is married to the former Margaret Leech and they have six children: John David Cole, Holli Byars, Chris Cole, Tori Byars, Amy Cole Belew, and David Byars, Jr.
